About Me
About Me

Hi, thanks for visiting my website.  My name is Chris Shaw, and I began making my 'Shawramic wares' back in March of 1992.

I was out of work at the time of making my first 'face planter'.  I had recently lost my driver's licence and desperately needed a job, but didn't like the thought of going to work back in a factory.  A friend of mine suggested to me one day that I should think about trying out the idea I had a couple of years previously about making 'tree stump pottery planters with faces on them.  Considering I lived about 10 minutes walk from the pottery factory, it didn't take much persuasion for me to invest $3.00 in a block of clay and begin working on my first masterpiece.  (Well, I thought it was all right at the time.)

I had about ten square feet of my mum's garage to work from.  A local potter fired my first few handmade pieces for me.  After seeing the positive response I got from my first day at the Croydon Market, I started also making mugs, candlestick holders and oilburners.

After having little success with several shops that I set up, I finally settled into the St.Kilda market in Melbourne Australia, where I operate every Sunday 9am - 5pm.  Please follow the links below to see the associated pictures.
